Rafael – My Idol

October 22, 2007

One of my favourite sports is Baseball. I root for Atlanta Braves but my idol is nota player from this team. Actually he plays for New York Yankees. He had already played for Hanshin Tigers. He is a left-handed pitcher who can throw a ball with a speed up to 93 mph. In 2002 he was the Strikeouts champion of the year. In 2003 he received the Sawamura Award, the Best Nine Award, he won the Era chanpion of the Central League and he received the award for Central League MVP. In 2004 he won the award  of Strikeouts Champion of the year. In 2006 he received the Strikeouts Champion of the Central League and he also played in the Nippon prfessional Baseball All-Star Game in 2001, 2002 and 2003. He is kei Ikegawa.

This are some reasons for make me consider him my idol. But the first and most important reason of he being my idol is his perceverience of never give up of his dream which was play in New York Yankees and he made it true.  He started as a rookie and in 1998 he started playing in Hanshin Tigers which is a good team. 2002 and 2003 were the best years of his career, he got a lot of awards and he was considered an International Top player. Then in 2006 he was hired by New York Yankees and he made his dream true.

  1. Hi Rafael,

One of the reasons why I love this blogging activity so much is the opportunity we teachers get to get to know our students more intimately. I did not know you enjoyed baseball. In spite of living in the US for 20 years, I never really developed a passion for baseball, American football, or even basketball. It is only now with soccer that my interest for sports sparked.

Maybe because I don’t know the rules very well, I find baseball really slow and unappealing. Our next class presentation will be about teaching the class something new. Maybe you could provide us some notions of baseball, because there are a couple of people in our group that have no clue about this sports like myself. We would appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us.

Also, about the baseball player you so much admire, it would be great if you could post a picture of the guy so that we can have some sense of what he looks like. We can do that together the next time we work on the blog in class. As far as his perseverance goes, I also admire professionals who are very driven in their field. There are so many people that dream about being someone and give up when they face their first adversity. Life is not easy. It takes dedication for us to get where we want to get. Nothing is for free. And I believe that at a very young age, you have already understood that, especially in your work with street dancing.

    Congratulations, man.
