Bruno – Tupac Shakur

October 22, 2007

I think can consider Tupac an idol. There are many things that impresses me about him. One thing is that he died with only 25 years old, after a career of about 14 albums and 7 movies (besides the movies that were done after he was dead). All of this work, were done only in 7 years (he started he career with 17 years old). And, all of his musics are very famous, he is very famous. Most of people who listen to rap music consider him as the best one, actually, I think he is the most important and the most influent among all the rappers. How a person who died with 25 years old, could have become so famous? This impresses me a lot.

He was born very poor. Having to face violence, racism and the poor condition of his family. Living in the ghetto was not easy. Besides he has been a  genious, I think that’s why his lyrics are so strong and make us think about some serious things, like problems in the society. Nowadays most of the rappers sing only about money, women and sex. So, tupac is different of all of them.

Tupac died in 1997, but there is a controversy. There are people who think that he is still alive. Actually, there are some weird things that makes me think if he died or not. Like: in a videoclip of him there is a watch behind the scene that shows a certain time, and this time is the same as the time he died. He also used to like the idea of returning after everyone believing that the person is dead. When he was in jail, he read a book from Niccolò Machiavelli, which the protagonist is a man who makes everyone believes that he is dead, but after some time, he appears when everyone had already forgotten him. After this, Tupac gave himself another pseudonymously: Makaveli. These are just one of exemples that makes people wonder if Tupac is really dead.

These kind of things, quite impressive, makes me admire him a lot. That’s why I chose him as an idol.

  1. Hi Bruno,

Because of my age, I don’t really know Tupac’s work very well. Also, I have never been an avid fan of rap music, which is another reason why I am not familiar with his work. But I am impressed at the fact that he was able to accomplish so much in such a short period of time. I guess all the dedication that he put into his work really paid off. What comforts me in your admiration for him is the fact that I also believe that you have this inner drive to succeed in life, to accomplish your goals in a short period of time, and to embrace the world as you live your life. It is so great to be able to work with teens who are very determined and mature for their age like the members of our class.

Wish you guys all the best in life,
